India is my Country...

All of you who are currently reading this post, might be very much into the happenings in the Financial Capital of India over the last few months as well as happenings in some of the states. Last few months I have made me rethink on lot of issues and perspectives and I thought why not write a post on them. And so here I have collated my thoughts over that last 3 days and trying to put them into logical sentences.

The media - print and visual has been agog with news about how one regional political leader in his bid to gain popularity is stoking fires of regionalism and sons of the soil issues and damaging the basic ethos of our pledge in school - "I am an Indian, India is my country; All Indians are my brothers and sisters ......... " I dont know if they take that pledge in school these days and if they do, does it have any importance at all. How can one gentleman say that if one has to stay in a particular state, he/she has to learn and live by that language, job preference is to be given to the localites and local customs are paramount. That is what rankles my conscience, my thoughts. Are we living in a dictatorship / Autocracy? What happened to India's plurality? The last few months has seen mindless violence and brutality towards the poor north Indian migrants (taxi drivers, roadside snacksellers and rickshaw drivers). One needs to look at this issue in the right perspective. Why and how did members of a particular community occupy certain professions (at the bottom of the social pyramid) in such a widespread manner. What were the local leaders and their cronies doing all this while? It would not be difficult to see it from the concepts of demand and supply and a vibrant democracy.

I have also observed a strange analogy between Bengal and Maharashtra. In Bengal, one would find the migrant labourers as Taxi Drivers, manual rickshaw pullers, civil construction labourers and porters at the railway station. Maharashtrians as with most Bengalis, like to earn their two pence, live a peaceful life, enjoy their fish curry & rice, and indulge in cultural pursuits (read theatre, music and art). Both the communities (the city dwellers) are not much attuned to hard manual labour. And probably thats where the so called "migrant" workforce filled up the gap. One would however need to consult a historian and anthropologist to find out the real reason.

Its important that the common educated man realises that we are being stupid by being conned and its not the leaders. They are a smart bunch of people who knows that we have stopped thinking collectively, ethically and straight. The Marxists in Bengal stopped the teaching of English Language in school till Standard 6. The common refrain was again "cultural degradation". But surprisingly, the children of these leadres were all going to reputed convents across Kolkata (erstwhile Calcutta). I was agahst at seeing the Govt textbooks of Standard 6 teaching the student the basic alphabets of English(see google u will find it). That was the mid 1980s. Cut across to 2008. Another state, another leader has raised the issue of regional identity. The children of such regional leaders though vouch by the international schools with astronomical fees. Some of them are also high profile real estate business men. A pertinent question that one should look into is how many of these real estate tycoons have actually contributed to something as socially relevant as "affordable housing" or any other socially relevant issues? Our infrastructure is not at all comparable to other countries of the BRIC nations, our healthcare system is relegated only to the cities and we have an education system which has almost nil practical utility. We are still harping and aiming at 8-9% GDP growth. How much of this growth really touches the 70 % of population which constitutes the have nots?

It leaves me all afraid. No regional identity as such and no political support existent. What do we give little ones as legacy? Where does they stand in this divide of caste, regional identity, and religion identity?

Are we paying a price being an educated, hardworking and nationalist Indian and not regional in mentality? India is not about religion, caste and region. India is about Oneness - the oneness of spirit and oneness of being together. I will hang on to the hope that things will change. We will be the change. If everyone of us starts thinking of being the change, we can bring in a revolution - a la KAIZEN (the Japanese concept of individual incremental change bringing in revolutionary change). Lets all ask for it.

How real are the reality shows on TV channels

YOUNG INNOCENT kids are under tremendous pressure nowadays. For one it is the rising educational weight in the form of school bags and pressure to get high percentage from their parents and loved ones and now there has been a flood of entertainment channels on television and kids are under pressure from their loved ones, teachers and from the members of their society where they reside to perform excellent in the talent hunt ‘reality shows’, which have been drawing a large number of audience who find daily sops boring and too complicated to understand.

The success of these reality shows, which are being telecast on different satellite channels mostly during the prime time i.e. 9pm onwards, can be gauged from the fact that these reality shows receive millions of SMS’ through mobile to vote for the favourite contestant and the reports of various surveys conducted to rate the Television Rating Point (TRP) of these programmes also prove that there has been a rising popularity among the masses, especially among the middle class families, for these reality shows.

Middle class families feel these reality shows provide an opportunity to exhibit one’s talent in singing, music, dance, comedy, laughter, etc and as the show is telecast on satellite channels, it gives one a global platform to display talent in front of a large number of viewers. Now, it is up to the viewers of the show to decide whom they like the most. The role of the judges participating in the show is nothing more than that of a puppet as they do what the channel marketing people tell them to do. The scripts are written and there seems to be little left for the judges to do anything of their own. And if the people have to decide the fate of participants, as most of the votes still get cast considering the regional preferences of the voters among the participating contestants, then what is the need of judges who rebuke and scold participants and make young participants feel like they have committed some crime by coming on to the stage.

Truth is always stranger than fiction and imagination looks brighter than reality. Reality shows in the name of talent hunt that are going on different TV channels are one such mirage, which attracts fame-hungry people to itself and then slowly finish them off in a short span of time. These channels are just exploiting young talents and making millions of rupees through the game of voting.

Immature minds cannot take failures. They start taking too much stress, thinking about the consequences of their failure and what their parents, teachers or relatives would say to them on their failure? How their friends will greet them after watching the show on TV and seeing them not qualifying for another round. All this psychological pressure takes a toll on the nervous system of a child and then some unfortunate incident occurs. What happened to young Shinjni, who is now admitted to a hospital after she suffered a light paralytic attack following the harsh judgment passed on her by the judges of a dance show.

Reality shows are not real as they look. Everything there is dramatised in front of people and a large number of viewers get fooled. The contestant whom the channel marketing people think should be the winner, gets the crown. In the past too, there have been allegations against the famous Kaun Banega Crorepati where people alleged that several members of the BSNL reached the final 10 contestants and a few were given another chance too, to win big money. So, the parents should realise that their children are not money-making machines and they must not sacrifice their childhood for such programmes. The Union government must ask all the channels to stop telecasting all reality shows, which include children under the age of 18 years. There should be some law to stop child labour that is going on in the TV industry.

A child artiste today works for more than 16 hours. Can you imagine the state of mind of that child and what problems he has to face after he becomes 40 years of age. He will be finished by then. It is time to actfor the government and there is need to spread awareness among the parents to stop putting load of your happiness and desires on the weak shoulders of your children.

National sport brings national shame ....

IT COULD’NT get worse for Indian hockey. A game that symbolize the very spirit of the Indians, a game in which India could proudly say that they had in them to be the World Champions and a game in which the magical craft of the players was envied far and wide. But now times have changed. The last time India won Gold in the Olympics was in the Moscow Olympics in 1980 and since then it has been downhill from there. India was the champions of the Olympics having won it eight times but it is a new low, which India hasn’t even managed to qualify for the Beijing Olympics.

Many people will have a strong view saying Cricket is to be blamed because of Cricket that Hockey has been neglected. But the reasoning here is flawed. If anyone is to be blamed, it is the Indian hockey Federation. Since KPS Gill and his men have taken over IHF, Indian hockey has gone from bad to worse. Big players have been dropped and coaches have been shuffled. Whenever India goes for a tournament it has new faces cropping up. Fifteen coaches in the past ten years and yet KPS Gill has continued to be at the top.

The symptoms had been visible in the past few years when players like Dhanraj Pillay were unceremoniously dropped from the Team, when India barely used to qualify for the finals of major tournaments. The Asia Cup win was one of the few moments that Indian Hockey celebrated in the past few years. Otherwise, it would have been a sepulchral atmosphere.

But the loss to Great Britain in the finals at Chile exposes the rot in the Indian Hockey federation. Amidst the politics, it is the national game that has suffered. As the vice president of IHF resigned, he revealed that IHF President KPS Gill and the secretary general K Jyothikumaran, don’t get in term with each other. In an effort to resuscitate the national game, Rich Charlesworth a Bradman like legend from Australia was roped in as technical director to make a difference to the Indian Hockey. But, he wasn’t even allowed to fly to Chile for the qualifiers, so was there any point in hiring such a high profile player?

It is a similar story, when the Indian hockey team returns from Chile, the coach will be sacked or he will resign, many players who might have performed well in the tournament might be dropped. The point is that the IHF has never been responsible enough to handle Indian Hockey and in their arrogance the National game go to the dogs. It is time KPS Gill instead of swapping players and coaches take the blame and resigned from the post letting people with fresh ideas come in.

Cricket too went through a similar debacle last year as the Indian team who had finished runners up n 2003 failed to go past the first round in the 2007 Cricket world Cup which was held in the West Indies. But the strength of the team was there for all to see as the players bounced back to win the 20-20 World Cup. The board, the media and the ex- players were always in support of the team even after the big loss. This is the kind of support that Indian hockey team needs. The Media is very biased to the game of hockey as it will go all out to report this loss to Great Britain but would have not done the same, had it qualified for the Olympics. Clearly, the Media has its own vested interests.

Chak De had become a National Anthem for the whole nation, but now it is more associated with Cricket than Hockey. Even Shahrukh Khan chose to buy out a Cricket team instead of investing in Hockey. Hockey needs to be encouraged right from the grass root levels else this game will die a slow death. After hitting rock bottom the only way left is going up gradually and hoping the Golden days of Hockey will be back again.
i think we need to spend money and glamorize d hockey...
as we have done with cricket

d world is FAKE

The whole world is fake
the faces around us
we all seem to hate
we live a lie
up until the day we die
trying to be someone were not
not being ourselves
no matter what
all living are lives
as a sharade
letting our true selves fade and fade
why cant we all be real
tell people how we truly feel
it seems as though
this is how its always gonna be
not having a true definition of the word Me,
just simply acting to make ourselves look good
not being who we are
like we should ..

i m running from...MYSELF

I hate this feeling of displacement,
Not knowing where I'm headed.
Not knowing how to react.
Heading to a place that I have created.

Slice open,
The pain held inside.
And let it slip away.
Every night that I have cried.

Let the blood drop,
Let it all slip away.
Let life slowly stop,
This life of disarray.

Foot steps...their coming,
Cover the blood,
Don't show what you are becoming.
Don't show the crimson flood.

Place on that mask,
That mask of happiness.
Forced smile...always a task.
My veins now becoming bloodless.

In they walk,
The blood still dripping.
Full of empty talk,
I can feel my life slipping.

Never did I want to die,
I just wanted to feel,
And then asked why?
To stop feeling numb would have been ideal.

But now as I slip away,
I can see things were never right.
A fake life was on display.
To the skies I am

Where are you when I need you most?

Where are you when I need you most?
You disappeared into the darkness
You left nothing behind but your memory
And for me to wait for you

Your heartfelt spirit is absent now
The smiles have wiped off the faces
Of the people you deserted here
You caused internal forever pain

I, the one you loved am crippled
Because of your sudden vacation
Your vacation that would last a lifetime
To a secret resort I will never know of

What made you decide to change your mind?
You made me feel I wasnâ??t good enough for you
Maybe that is true, maybe it is not
But now, how will I ever know?

I have been trying to thrust your memory aside
So I could get on with my life
I have tried to love someone other than you
Yet, somehow you remain the main focus

My outlook on life has changed, you know
And yes, it is because of your actions
You left me here alone to put up with this
This life I can not live without you...

Gandhigiri...

Thanks to "Lage raho ...." for making me realize the greatness of Bhaarat all over again. India is the only country in the world where "Gandhigiri" flows in the bloodstream of more than 1.2 billion. “Gandhigiri” can be used as a synonym for the moral values that have been inculcated into Indians over the centuries. Every now and then some one like Gandhi comes and forces us to look inside our souls to rediscover those subtle values that we tend to overlook so easily. I might not be a stern follower and believer of all that Gandhi had said and preached, but I do believe in the underlying essence of his preaching’s.

Sticking to the truth and righteousness and following the “path of dharma” has been taught to Indians since Vedic times and these virtues have been passed on from one generation to next. Neither moughals nor British could erase these qualities and the traces are still visible in our DNA. People make a nation, when majority of the citizens walk the path of truth, righteousness and dharma, the nation walks in the same direction. India never attacked any country for greed of oil. I doubt if Indians would have kept quite if more than 3000 Indian soldiers would have died on the “Line of duty (aka Greed of oil)”. Unlike some developed countries, Indians do not preach or follow Barbaric way of life by invading other countries because the word barbaric means uncivilized and India is one of the oldest civilizations on this planet. In India we still respect our elders; no other civilization has a practice of touching feet of elders in the family. In west one can forget about respecting elders, even parents are abandoned by their kids once kids are on their own. “Ahinmsa” or non-violence is another virtue that makes Indians great. India might have a huge problem of stray cattle, dogs and cats. Well, this is the live proof that we don’t go about killing innocent animals. Human race is considered above the animals and we are taught to spare and help other forms of life that are not as developed as we are. Even a poor farmer takes good care of his cattle and there is a festival dedicated to animals where the farm animals are prayed. Indians are far more caring towards animals than any other nation, In west the humane society and other adoption agencies puts the dogs and cats to sleep (kill them) if they are not adopted in 1weeks time, and then they call themselves Humane.

India has always followed the path of truth. Indians always took up arms against injustice. My faith in Indian values is still intact and I know that Indians will continue to walk the path of righteousness and continue to fight the evils like corruption and any form of injustice.
Thanks to “Lage raho… ” I again realized the greatness of our nation.
Jai Hind.

Is being a woman a crime in India?

Is India a hypocritical society? Or we are just plainly liars? We worship goddesses on every major festival. In the nine days of Navratras, we worship Goddess Durga, for wealth, we revere Lakshmi while Saraswati is depicted as the embodiment of knowledge. However, this seems to be just done for appearances. We really don’t consider a woman as a Devi, do we? If you say yes, we do, these stats from the National Crimes Records Bureau (NRCB) tell us a different story! Have a look:

* According to the NRCB stats, Andhra Pradesh, the southern state in India has recorded the maximum crime against women. These include 11,335 cases of violence, 613 dowry deaths, 1,564 kidnapping cases, 1,070 rape cases in just one state!
* Uttar Pradesh is not far behind. About 21,216 violence cases which include about 2,066 dowry deaths, 3,189 kidnapping cases and 1,532 rape cases.
* According to NRCB, many minor girls are raped by police personnel themselves!
* Haryana may be a small state but it has recorded about 4,645 cases of crime against women with 488 rape cases and about 269 dowry deaths.
* In Bihar more than 59% women are subjected to domestic violence. About 7,548 cases have been recorded which include 1,260 kidnapping cases, 1,172 dowry deaths and 1,555 rape cases!

These stats may be frightening but they are definitely not the real picture since most of the times most cases are not reported due to the fear of shame or even other repercussions to the family.

We talk about being a progressive Indian society, yet statistics reveal the other side of the picture. Earlier, people used to drown or bury the new born girls alive and now more and more people are opting for female infanticide. According to the reported trends, a woman is raped ever 29th minute in India! People throw acids like sulfuric acids and other such chemicals on women’s faces. Even a state like Bangladesh announced a death penalty for such a heinous crime, yet India is napping!

Dowry deaths are so common as well. A newly married woman should get income tax free money and gifts for in laws from her parents. If she doesn’t, she is killed by various means. What’s more is most of the cases are shoved under the carpet, since the law makers and the care takers of law are just bribed by the offenders. Honor killings in villages are rampant and glorified. Child marriages are still prevalent!

All kinds of law care takers from the highest to the lowest are bribed. Most women don’t even get the justice they deserve! Why? What is the solution to this problem? Does any one know?
comon guys its d time to respect all sections of society...isnt it???
plz spread these words..write bloggs..msg..whatever u can...
and start it with urself respect women...

YOU mean World to ME

You mean the world to me
You are everything to me
Just to hold you close
To feel your loving embrace
Makes me smile and feel loved inside
You have my heart and shall keep it forever
You have the password to my soul
You are the missing piece of the puzzle that shall make me whole

I love you with all my heart
Words cannot describe how i feel
To be apart from you for just a short time
Tears away at me inside
But as soon as i see your beautiful face
And just have one bittersweet kiss
The pain inside me vanishes and is no more

I feel you are my one true love
My reason to live on
Without you I would break
Just shatter into pieces
And float away in the wind
You are the reason that i wake each day
So I hope and pray that you will stay..!!

its to HER...

why do i ask sorry even when i m not wrong??
why do we bend ourselves as we cant afford losing them??
why do we run to help a buddy after a bitter quarrel??
why do we feel pleasure in hurting d people we luv??
why do we always eager to reach out despite being avoided??
y bcz sum pains are more enjoyed thn happiness
sum relation are satisfactory thn self ego
some moments are more precious then our breathe

India in a need of “tech-revolution”

India around 1960 faced a rapid change in the spirit of a common people. The war between India and Pakistan was the most important reason for it. It was the time when we were fighting a war with Pak but also with the years of our hunger. At that time the maximum percentage of death is due to hunger. India was in crisis and there was no hope of light. But this change in spirit of Indians took us at the level where we are now. This change resulted Green Revolution. Many farmers applied all the latest technologies in the farming leaving the old traditional style. They learnt how to save time, how to manure the crops, use of fertilizers etc. This not only made us self sufficient but also made India to stand in the world market of agricultural. Green revolution is basically a result of technology.
At this moment of time India is growing up rapidly. It’s going to be the 3rd largest power in the world but there are truths that can’t be denied. It can’t be denied that we know about technologies but the problem is we are learner of a technology not the creator of technologies. India requires frequent changes otherwise the future results are to going to be in its favor as they are now. India is searching out for a new techno-revolution.
What I basically mean from tech-revolution and what are the steps to be taken for the same is the main question. The tech revolution will definitely contain two most important points- a) The implementation of all the available technologies in each and every field and b) The development of new technologies. Thus India require two major steps two be taken first will be to include recent technology as one of the subjects in schools as well as in colleges. The second and the foremost step will be to encourage the research work. The main reason for success of countries like America is the importance that has been given to research work over there; it’s their research work that had made that country as superpower. India at this moment though growing up but fighting two wars that is an internal war with our internal problems and second is an external war against increasing challenges and competition from other countries. This external war also includes Terrorism. The wars can only be won a tech revolution
Definitely its not going to be so easy for any country but it was also not easy in 1960s where we all broke the old trends and proved ourselves in spite of all the unfavorable conditions. Its time where we have to start creating our own technologies and not only just develop but have to utilize as well as implement them in the whole country.

Role of Youth in “nation building”

It is well known that India is home to a significant proportion of youth of the world today. All the imperialists of the world are eyeing India as a source of technical manpower. They are looking at our boys and girls as a source of talents at low costs for their future super profits. If Indian youth make up their mind and work in close unity with working class people, they can foil the plans of Imperialism. This can be done by giving the political power in their hands. The youth will ensure that there is work for all. They will ensure that what is produced is used for providing adequacy for all members of society. Unfortunately no one is bothered to dream any such vision.
In recent years the world has come to look at India with renewed respect, recognizing a strong and prosperous global power in the world. It is also a future when the famous richness of India’s art, culture, intellectual explorations and spirituals pursuits will begin to show its full glory bringing much success to the troubled spirit of Modern India.
Is it a dream? Yes. Is it an impossible dream? No, it’s not. This can be done by the Youth of Indians. Youth is the spring of Life. It is the age of discovery and dreams. When they dream they dream not only for the good future of themselves but also for the good future for nation and entire humanity. Their dreams take them to stars and galaxies to the far corners of the unknown and some of them like our own Kalpana Chawla pursue their dream, till they realize it and die for it in process.
If any section of the society in any country is most important for change, again it is the young people. Patriotism comes naturally to young people, but they also respond early to the call of Internationalism. Youth hopes for a world free of poverty, unemployment, inequality and exploitation of man by man, a world free of discrimination on the grounds of race, color, language and gender, a world full of creative challenges and opportunities to conquer. These are not just empty hopes. Modern science and technology have brought these hopes out in the reach of realization.
In recent times Terrorism has emerged as one of the gravest threat to peace and democratic policy. Youth are drawn between acts of terrorism. In some cases it is not the terrorism, but a freedom struggle. This is how our neighbors are trying to justify its policy of cross border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Youth organizations should carry out an awareness campaign to expose justification or condoning of terrorism anywhere and under whatever pretext. The youth can play a vital role in the implementation of elimination of terrorism. If the energy, intelligence and resources of youth are fully and properly utilized the country will prosper. The spirit of oneness that prevails in youth must be flowed to every part of the country to stop terrorism and only youth can do that.
Youth have some responsibility towards their country. We need to learn from yesterday and live with hope for a better tomorrow. We can learn from our past how the young warriors shed their blood for the country. Youth and nation have to walk hand in hand. Most importantly, the youth should be honest and hard working. Youth should stand against all the wrong doings in the country. Instead of blaming the system, young India should come together and with their toil should mould our nation for a better tomorrow. We, the youth should use our brains, strength, creativity and imagination to serve our nation. Instead of asking, "Who’s going to fight the corruption?," we should do it ourselves. Rather than fighting upon the issues and ruining the country, we should learn to develop it.
We need to learn from yesterday and live with hopes for a better tomorrow. So we have to do our bit for the nation and be the change that we have always wanted. India can become a developed nation only if everyone contributes to the best of his or her capacity and ability. Youth is wholly experimental and with the full utilization of the talents of the Youth, India will become a complete Nation. Let us hope for the same.

Indian Education System - a long way to go

google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
Why India is still a developing country and what is stopping it from being a developed country? This particular question strikes me every time when I read something about India’s education system. I see India’s education system as a stumbling block towards its objectives of achieving inclusive growth. Let me inform you about certain startling facts. India is going to experience a paradox of nearly 90 million people joining the workforce but most of them will lack require skills and the mindset for productive employment according to a report in a leading newspaper. India has about 550 million people under the age of 25 years out of which only 11% are enrolled in tertiary institutions compared to the world average of 23% (as per the report)
I wouldn’t be laying too much emphasis on the drawbacks of India’s public education system because it has been an issue well debated in recent time and the main flaws have already been pointed out before. I will be focusing on how the education system’s failure is leading to another social issue of income inequality and hence, suggest certain policies to improve India’s education system and reduce inequality.
The critical aspect of Indian public education system is its low quality. The actual quantity of schooling that children experience and the quality of teaching they receive are extremely insufficient in government schools. A common feature in all government schools is the poor quality of education along with weak infrastructure and insufficient attention.
What the government is not realizing right now is that education which is a source of capital is creating wide income inequalities. It will be surprising to see how income inequalities are created within the same group of educated people. So if the government does not improve education system particularly in rural areas the rich will become richer and the poor will get poorer.
Hence, it is necessary for the government to correct the drawbacks in India’s education system which will also be a step towards reducing income inequality.
Certain policy measures need to be taken by the government. The basic thrust of government education spending today must surely be to ensure that all children have access to government schools and to raise the quality of education in those schools.
Another reason for poor quality of education is the poor quality of teachers in government schools .Government schools are unable to attract good quality teachers due to inadequate teaching facilities and low salaries. To improve the quality of education, the government needs to spend more money on education.
Lets hope government takes certain appropriate policy measures to improve the education system otherwise inequalities are going to be widespread and India’s basic capabilities will remain astonish.
